CNY: 10km/h speed limited reduction on federal & state roadsAuto News
The Works Ministry has announced that the speed limit on federal and state roads will be reduced by 10km/h this CNY.
As announced by the works minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, this temporary speed limit reduction will be enforced from 18 to 27 January 2023. Best to keep that Waze app up and running throughout your journey, eh?
80km/h for federal roads, 70km/h for state roads
This means that all federal roads with a speed limit of 90km/h will be brought down to 80km/h for 10 days and the same time period applies to state roads where the initial 80km/h speed limit is temporarily set at 70km/h.
The works ministry has also carried out road repairs at over 50 hotspots for accidents on federal roads throughout 2022. The cost for all to work done last year was RM17.2 million. A further RM4.7 million to install more street lights at 40 locations with frequent road incidents.
2,000 JP personnel on duty for CNY 2023
On top of that, Transport Minister Anthony Loke also mentioned that around 2,000 JPJ personnel will be on duty for this coming Chinese New Year holiday week. Apart from the normal operations, there will also be some 'undercover' operations where they will also ride along express buses to ensure that the bus operators are up to par when it comes to road laws.
Over 70 depots and 28 terminals have been inspected since 14 January 2023 to ensure that all vehicles that'll operate throughout the CNY 2023 period will be in good running condition.
To everyone, drive safe and have a prosperous Chinese New Year!
