Honda Sells 60,469 Vehicles In 2020 - No.1 Non-National Sales

If there was an award for undisputed No. 1 Non-National Segment sales award for six consecutive years, that award would go to Honda Malaysia.

First, let's run-through Honda's wins in a year that was fraught with difficulties:

  • 60,469 vehicles sold in 2020
  • 2020 Honda City recorded the highest monthly sales in history with over 5,500 units sold in December 2020
  • Honda City has achieved more than 15,200 bookings to date

(and all this with the pricing of the Honda City RS i-MMD yet to be announced)

Honda Malaysia's sales achievements for 2020 were largely driven by the City which recorded the highest sales volume at 34 percent followed by the Civic at 20 percent and HR-V at 17 percent.

With up to 15,200 bookings to date for the City, Honda Malaysia has managed to deliver close to 10,800 units of the 2020 Honda City to customers throughout Malaysia.

The V variant of the 2020 Honda City proved most popular with 52 percent of total bookings. Once again Central Peninsular Malaysia was most active in shopping for new Honda cars, contributing 48 percent of total sales, followed by the Southern region with 19 percent and the Northern region with 18 percent.

Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Toichi Ishiyama said, “The year 2020 may have been challenging but we have managed to maintain our undisputed No.1 position in the Non-National Segment for the sixth consecutive year with 60,469 units sold and for that, we are truly humbled by the support we have received."

He went on to add, “We sincerely thank the Malaysian Government for the extension of sales tax exemption until 30th June 2021 which will allow many Malaysians to purchase cars with extra savings. As we move on in 2021, we will continue to support the Government’s efforts to curb the pandemic which is still active nationwide.”
