Six new models by 2022. That's the headline that Mercedes-Benz is going for with their most recent announcement - and all of these models are expected to be electric. They may be electric variants of the cars we know and love, but if the EQC SUV is anything to go by, you can exepct them to be highly competitive and perfectly at home in the Mercedes-Benz range. In the first half of next year, we are going to see the launch fo the EQS luxury sedan. Both the EQA and EQB compact SUVs are also going to go into production next year, the former being in Rastatt, Germany, and the latter in Kecskemét, Hungary - in addition to Beijing, China. The EQE business sedan - an electric E-Class if you will - will also see production kicking off next year at that same Beijing plant that will produce the EQA and EQB. Arguably, the Beijing plant could be the most important for Mercedes-Benz as it will undoubtedly supply more than just the Chinese market should demand spike rapidly. If you're keeping count, that's four models spoken for. 2022 will see the production launch of SUV variants of the EQS and EQE sedans, and given how the market is constantly pushing towards SUVs this won't be seen as a misstep on Mercedes-Benz's part. To support this incredibly rapid increase in production figures, the Mercedes-Benz battery production network will also ramp up in Hedelfingen, Germany effective immediately, while SUV-specific battery production will ramp up at their Kamenz plant in Germany and Jawor plant in Poland. Over in the United States, Tuscaloosa will be making the batteries for the upcoming EQS and EQE SUVs due in 2022. All of these models will be based on new electric vehicle platforms - while you would think there would be benefits in economies of scale for platform sharing, Mercedes-Benz expects demand for these electric models to be so high that they will practically achieve the necessary scale on their own steam. ✕ Let's Connect on Whatsapp We protect your personal information in compliance with the PDPA I agree with Carlist.my Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
