The Mercedes-Benz SLK will soon be known as the SLC as part of the company’s new naming nomenclature but that hasn’t stopped the Stuttgart-based carmaker from launching the new SLK roadster in the European market. The 2015 model now comes with new engine and transmission options.
Up first is the entry-level Mercedes-Benz SLK 200, now with a 2.0-litre turbocharged in-line four-cylinder with a third-generation direct injection and multi-spark ignition system. Power output is rated at 184hp with 30Nm more torque than the preceding model at 300Nm.
Next, the new SLK 300 replaces the outgoing SLK 250 and also receives Mercedes-Benz’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot but now delivers 245hp and 370Nm, a substantial 40hp and 60Nm of torque more than before.
The diesel option is now called the SLK 250d (previously SLK 250 CDI) which calls upon its 2.1-litre turbocharged in-line four-cylinder for 204hp and 500Nm of torque. Although power figures remain the same, fuel consumption is less by 0.4 litres per 100km, now 4.4 litres per 100km and only 114g/km of CO2 produced.
As for transmission options, the SLK 200 comes with a six-speed manual transmission but is also available with the new nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The 9G-Tronic comes as standard on the SLK 300 and SLK 250d.
Other remaining models in the range include the SLK 350 and SLK 55 AMG. This along with all the above-mentioned SLK models comply with the EU6 emissions standard and come featured with the ECO start/stop function.
Extended standard equipment fitted include LED daytime-running lights, LTE-capable aerial for improved reception and transmission of mobile radio signals.
Standard safety equipment include ATTENTION ASSIST to DISTRONIC PLUS with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS and Adaptive Brake Assist with Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist as additional options.
