Peugeot Electrifies The All-New 208

All set to make its global debut at the upcoming 2019 Geneva Motor Show next month, Peugeot has revealed the all-new 208.

Built on the completely new CMP modular platform, the big news with the all-new 208 is that it will be offered with three different energy source options – a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine, and for the first time, an electric powertrain.

Paired to these engines depending on variant is either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The electric variant, which is called the Peugeot e-208, is powered by a 100 kW electric motor developing 136 hp and 260 Nm of torque. It comes with three driving modes (Eco, Normal, Sport) and two braking modes (Moderate, Augmented).

There is also a 50 kWh large-capacity battery which gives the e-208 a maximum range of up to 340 km. According to Peugeot, this battery is guaranteed for 8 years or 160 000 km for 70% of its charge capacity.

Recharging can be done in three ways using either a conventional domestic socket (16 hours), a wall box (5 hours), or a public terminal (30 minutes). The e-208 can also be remotely charged if programmed via the Connected Navigation screen or using the MyPeugeot smartphone app.

Longer, wider and lower than the current model, the all-new 208 is available in five spec levels: Like, Active, Allure, GT Line and GT.

Key exterior features of the new 208 includes a pared-back windscreen, a long, sculpted bonnet, extreme-angled quarter light, glossy black wheel arch flaring, 17-inch wheels with customisable inserts, full LED 3-claw headlights, as well as a rear diffuser.

The e-208 on the other hand has a few unique features to separate it from the other versions, like the body colour-coded radiator grill, Dichroic Lions (the Lions appear to change colour as a function of the angle of view), and “e-208” badges.

Inside, the all-new 208 benefits from Peugeot’s i-Cockpit system, which features a seamless 3-tier ergonomic structure.

Key features include the 3D instrument panel display information that can be read at two levels, touch screen available in 5, 7, or 10-inch versions, a 3D heads-up display, and a dashboard with a “carbon” finish, and Peugeot Mirror Screen function with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Last but not least, key safety and driving aid technology include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane positioning assistance, Full Park Assist, Automatic Emergency Brake Assist, Active lane keeping assist, Driver Attention Monitoring,  Automatic headlight dipping, Speed limit recognition and recommendation, Extended traffic sign recognition, Active Blind Spot Monitoring, as well as electric parking brake.
