PM Anwar Ibrahim says no to GST comeback, T20 subsidy reduction instead

Talks on the reintroduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) have been put to an indefinite halt following the statement from our country's Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim addressed the Dewan Rakyat earlier this week and mentioned that the current government has no plans to bring back GST or any other broad-based consumption taxes anytime soon in a bid to reduce the country's expenditures as well as liabilities that have reached a whopping RM1.5 trillion.

According to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (as reported by NST), "As I have explained before in the previous session, the government has decided to impose subsidy reduction on the T20 categories, as well as multinational and large companies, except those dealing with food security even when the previous administration decided to increase the tariff."

The current PM and Malaysian government will be working hard to not only reduce the country's debt, but also by doing so as well as restoring good governance by making changes that won't be a burden to the people, particularly in a number of very important sectors like education, health, and basic needs.

More details will be shared in the near future as the government prepares the retabling of Budget 2023.
