Local car manufacturer Proton will be building a new assembly plant in Pakistan, with its local partner Al-Haj Automotive.
Malaysia High Commissioner to Pakistan Ikram Mohammad Ibrahim said, “Proton felt the potential for its cars in Pakistan is huge, which led to its partnership with Al-Haj Automotive to establish an assembly plant near Karachi in Sindh province. This is significant because it will be Proton’s first (assembly) plant in South Asia because the population of Pakistan is 210 million.”
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan are expected to witness the groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow, as part of Tun Mahathir’s three day official visit to Pakistan.
Back in February, the new generation Proton Saga was seen in Pakistan, possibly hinting that the model could be introduced there.
