Toyota And Mercedes-Benz Lead Auto Sector In 2018 Best Global Brands List

Toyota is once again the world’s most valuable automotive brand, followed by Mercedes-Benz. This is according to branding consultancy Interbrand’s Best Global Brands 2018 study.

The study identifies the world's 100 most valuable brands. Nominee brands were evaluated based on their "financial performance of the brand's products or services", "role of the brand in the purchase decision-making process" and "strength of the brand in relation to safeguarding the company's future revenue".  This is done in accordance to ISO 10668:2010 - an international standard that defines the basic requirements on procedures and methods for determining the monetary value of a brand.

Between 2017 and 2018, Toyota had improved its brand value by 6 percent to USD 53.4 billion. It now ranks 7th overall, behind sixth place Samsung and fifth place Coca-Cola.

The second highest ranked automotive brand is Mercedes-Benz, coming in at eighth overall, having improved its brand value by 2 percent to reach USD 48.6 billion. It also means that the three-pointed star is also the world’s most valuable premium brand. The next closest automotive brand is BMW, ranked 13th overall.

Other automotive brands ranked are Honda (20th), Ford (35th), Hyundai (36th), Nissan (40th), Volkswagen (41st), Audi (42nd), Porsche (52nd), Kia (71st), Land Rover (78th), MINI (90th), and Subaru (100th).

The top-three most valuable brands overall are Apple, Google, and Amazon.
