Toyota Crown’s Malaysia’s Maiden Racing ESport Champion

After two days of qualifying and racing at Sunway Pyramid, Muhammad Uzair Bin S Abdul Nasir Khan was the first to cross the finishing line and crowned as champion of the inaugural Toyota Velocity Esport Championship.

For his hard work and sheer talent in battling with the very best of Malaysia’s Gran Turismo Sport players, Muhammad Uzair takes home RM20,000 and the championship trophy.

Second-place went to Mior Muhammad Hafiz Mior Lahmudin and awarded RM10,000, while Aiman Haziq Aidi completed the podium and received RM5,000. The remaining seven finalists also receive RM2,000 each.

All 400 qualifying slots that were spread between two days of play were taken up within a short time after UMW Toyota (UMWT) announced the event. Players were required to set their fastest lap time using the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept vehicle on the technical Suzuka Circuit. Muhammad Uzair also clocked the fastest qualifying time of 1:57.58 on Saturday.

The fastest 20 players then proceeded to a semi-final and then grand final 10-lap race with the fastest 10 players. The Playstation 4 machines were also fitted with the latest Thrustmaster T-GT controller for precise driver input as well as vehicle feedback.

“We are delighted with the overwhelming response from the public towards the very first Toyota Velocity Championship. Esports is definitely a rapidly rising industry not just in Malaysia but also globally as it provides exciting experience for the younger generation. Toyota’s involvement and strong presence in such activities complement the dynamic and sporty side of the brand,” said Mr Ravindran K., President of UMWT.

UMWT is the first Malaysian automotive company to be associated with the fast-growing Esports racing activity, which virtually mirrors the high-performance activities of Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR), giving the public a chance to experience the thrills and excitement of racing.

Apart from the public and media challenge, there was also an exciting exhibition race between the celebrities from the TGR Vios Challenge. Lucky fans also managed to interact with their favourite celebrities during the event.

Fans will also be able to catch the celebrities at the second round of the Vios Challenge at the TGR Racing Festival, scheduled from 19th to 21st October at MAEPS, Serdang.
