Volkswagen Tarok Concept Unveiled, Extendable Deck Length To Over 1.8 Metres

At the ongoing Sao Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil, Volkswagen took the wraps off its latest Tarok Concept, a replacement to their popular compact Saveiro pick-up.

The Tarok concept continues with the success story of the Saveiro which began back in 1983 in South America.

Back then, Volkswagen took the Gol subcompact car and added a pickup bed, making their first compact pick-up for the South American market.

The all-new pick-up, which will be positioned below the Amarok, is based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform just like the Tiguan compact SUV.

One important design feature in the double-cab five-seater Tarok Concept is the variable loading area concept. The length of the cargo deck can be extended by folding and tumbling down the rear seats, stretching the cargo deck from a length of 1,206 mm to 1,861 mm. For reference, the mainstream pick-up models in ASEAN have a cargo deck length that ranges from 1,500 mm to 1,550 mm.

On the inside, the Tarok Concept features a highly digitized environment. The dual-screen layout will allow for the latest generation of digital displays and controls.

Underneath the Tarok Concept’s stylish exterior design that combines an urban SUV and off-roader lies a powerful 1.4-litre TSI flex-fuel engine that develops 150 PS. Power is sent to all four wheels via the 4Motion system with terrain control and the rear suspension features independent multi-link arrangement.

Volkswagen will also offer the production model of the Tarok Concept to other markets, as well as a 2.0-litre turbo diesel mill that delivers 150 PS.
