All-New Volvo V60, Now With New T6 Twin Engine Option

Volvo Cars have just launched the new generation V60, the company’s mid-sized premium estate. The new model V60 was caught undergoing road tests a couple of weeks prior.

Similar to the XC60 and the 90 series cars, the all-new Volvo V60 is also underpinned by the company’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform.

At launch, the Volvo V60 is available with two plug-in hybrid powertrain options: the first is a new T6 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid that outputs 340 hp, while the second is the familiar T8 Twin Engine, good for 390 hp. Curiously, the T8 Twin Engine's output is lower than the 90 series cars' 407 hp. Both plug-in hybrid variants are AWD.

For customers that prefer regular petrol engines, the V60 can be had with either a T5 or T6 powertrain, while diesel users have the option of a D3 or D4 powertrain.

The new generation V60 comes standard with a comprehensive list of safety equipment, including City Safety with Autobrake, the only system on the market that is able to recognize pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. Additionally, City Safety is able to engage autobraking to mitigate collisions with oncoming vehicles.

Volvo has also improved the Pilot Assist feature on the V60 to feature better cornering performance. The system is able to support the driver with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads with speeds of up to 130 km/h.

Similar to its SPA-based siblings, the new Volvo V60 features a similar Sensus infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The tablet-style touch screen is home to the V60’s various controls, including air-conditioning, navigation and connectivity.

Volvo also added that customers can lease the V60 via the company’s Care by Volvo subscription service. The V60 is the second model to be included in the service, with the first model being the new XC40.
