Frankfurt 2017: Volkswagen I.D. Crozz Inches Closer to Production

Volkswagen has released a teaser image of a further developed version of the I.D. Crozz which is due to be revealed next week at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.

The design of the concept SUV, which is based on an all-electric architecture, will point more in the direction of a production version, says Volkswagen.

From what we can see, the I.D. Crozz features a wide bonnet with contoured front wings, a high-gloss black roof, and also an illuminated front grille.

Volkswagen also said that the SUV will be powered by an electric drivetrain with floor-integrated lithium-ion battery which results in an ‘open space’ cabin– a lounge-like spatial concept with four variable individual seats.

The main highlight of the I.D. is its electric drive range, which Volkswagen says ranges from 400 km to 600 km on a single charge. That’s nearly twice as far upcoming Tesla Model 3, which is a similar Golf-class model that offers about 350 km of electric drive range, nevermind about the 172 km Nissan Leaf.

Expected to be among the first of Volkswagen’s upcoming range of electric cars, the I.D. Crozz is slated to enter production in 2020.
