GIIAS 2015: Extensively Updated Toyota Avanza Makes an Appearance

Fresh from its market debut last week, Toyota has rolled out their new Avanza Veloz MPV at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Motor Show (GIIAS 2015) today. While the Avanza’s most obvious change seen on its mid-life cycle update is the new front fascia, with a more prominent grille and a new projector headlight design, the changes go beyond its sheet metal skin.

The engine range has been updated, this time with a pair of Dual VVT-i equipped engines. The entry level 1.3-litre 4-cylinder unit produces 96.5PS and 121Nm of torque, whereas the larger 1.5-litre 4-cylinder unit boasts an output of 104PS and 136Nm of torque. Both engines are tuned to reach their peak torque 200rpm earlier at 4,200rpm, as compared to the previous VVT-i engines.

Inside the Avanza Veloz’s cabin trim gets an update with a new black tone upholstery and a new blue-white colour instrument panel with an ‘Eco’ indicator. Access to the rear seats has also been made easier with a one-touch tumble seat folding mechanism on the middle row, while the second row is fully equipped with three three-point seatbelts.

As previously reported the Avanza Veloz is priced from IDR204.2 million for the 1.3 M/T, and up to IDR226.9 million for the range-topping 1.5 A/T. Considering that Avanza models sold in Malaysia are imported from Indonesia, we can expect the new Avanza to look very similar to this, though its final specification and features might vary.
