Honda plans to accelerate the electrification of its models for the Chinese market with a string of new products, beginning with an all-new China-only electric vehicle set for launch in 2018.
At the recent International Forum on Chinese Automotive Industry Development, Honda confirmed that the China-specific EV will be a three-way collaboration with local production partners GAC Honda Automobile and Dongfeng Honda Automobile. The resultant Honda model will also be available through both GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda channels.
The China specific EV model was first confirmed during Auto Shanghai 2017, alongside the Honda CR-V Hybrid model, which until recently was a Chinese market specific model as well.
The automaker will also tie-up with China’s IT services giant, Neusoft, for the development of EV technologies in multiple areas such as battery management, cloud management of vehicle data and connectivity.
Honda also announced that will proactively explore new business opportunities in the area of car sharing services in China, in-line with realising a highly-efficient mobility society and the popularization of new energy vehicles in China.
