Meet Lamborghini's Most Extreme Aventador: The LP750-4 SV

Sant’Agata has taken the covers off its newest and most extreme version of the Aventador supercar at the Volkswagen Group Night, a day before the doors officially open at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV - or Superveloce in Lambo-speak – has been lightened and features a more powerful engine over the standard car, following on from the 2010 Murcielago LP670-4 SV.

Through liberal use of carbon fiber, Lamborghini has been to make the SV lighter at approximately 1525kg, shaving off 50kg over a normal Aventador. Lamborghini says the fixed rear wing, side sills, fenders, and door panels were all made from the featherweight material. Speaking of that wing, it’s part of the SV’s upgraded aero package and increases downforce by 170 percent.

Power still comes from the naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12, but with a reworked valve train and new four-exit exhausts that reduces backpressure. These changes have resulted in an output of 740hp, 690Nm of torque, and the redline increased to 8,400rpm. Drive goes through a seven-speed single clutch automated manual to all four wheels. The extra power and reduced weight enable the sprint to 62 mph to take a mere 2.8 seconds from standstill with speed topping out at 217mph.

Extra standard bits include carbon-ceramic brakes, magneto-rheological dampers, Lamborghini’s dynamic steering system, and forged center-locking lightweight alloy wheels measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear.

There's just something about cars. It's a conveyance, it's a liability, it's a tool; but it can also be a source of joy, pride, inspiration and passion. It's much like clothes versus fashion. And like the latter, the pursuit of perfection never ends.
