My Autofest 2016: All-new Honda Civic Previewed

Courtesy of our Thai counterparts covering the Bangkok Motor Show and more recently through our KL office’s resident Papa Bear who was sent to attend a sneak preview drive in Chiangmai, we have seen much of the upcoming tenth-generation Honda Civic in its Thai-spec configurations.

Bookings for the new Civic opened last week at yet to be disclosed prices, but Malaysians now have the opportunity to see Honda’s much-anticipated C-segment sedan in the flesh at the My Auto Fest 2016 event that is happening this weekend at the MINES Convention Centre from 20 to 22 May 2016.

According to sources from Honda Malaysia, the vehicle on display is a pre-production unit and is representative of the Civic in its highest spec to be offered in our market. The vehicle’s interior will be closed; however, with its windows blacked out, meaning only its exterior is open to public scrutiny. The vehicle is finished a brand new Lunar Silver Metallic shade introduced for the first time here.

From current available info, Honda Malaysia plans to launch the all-new Civic with a choice of two engines, both mated with the company’s new Earth Dreams CVT as the standardized transmission replacing the long-serving 5-speed auto.

The familiar R-series 1.8-litre SOHC i-VTEC from the outgoing model is carried over to serve as the Civic’s base engine with unchanged outputs of 141PS and 173Nm. Above it sits the range-topping 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo engine pushing out 173PS and 220Nm.

Depending on variant, the all-new Civic is fitted with the following equipment:

  • Full LED headlights with LED daytime running lights
  • Alloy wheels: 1.8 – 16-inch, 1.5 Turbo – 17-inch
  • Remote Engine Start
  • Walk-Away Auto Lock
  • Electric Parking Brake
  • Brake Hold
  • Driver seat: 8-way electric adjustment (standard)
  • Electronic stability control (standard)
  • Hill Start Assist (standard)
  • Emergency Stop Signal (standard)
  • 6 airbags (standard)
