New Toyota Corolla Altis to Become PDRM Patrol Car, Tun Dr M Approves

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was recently showcased a prototype unit of the Toyota Corolla Altis which would soon be the new patrol vehicle to the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP).

Go Auto, who also happen to be the authorised distributors of Haval vehicles in Malaysia, received the letter of intent from the Home Ministry to supply 425 units of mobile patrol vehicle (MPV), to replace the aging Proton Wira and Proton Waja in stages. According to Go Auto, the selection of the Toyota Corolla Altis was a prerequisite from PDRM.

The vehicles will come with five years of free service and each unit will be equipped with additional special accessories such as the Integrated Light Sound System and Fleet Management System, as well as the Very High Frequency communication radio set.

We had the opportunity to test drive the new Corolla Altis during its launch and our verdict is that it's definitely at home in the city which would make it ideal for city patrolling. The chassis setup is solid, the car felt very planted and sure-footed even going around the bends of Genting.

Now if only we can get our hands on a PDRM-spec Toyota Corolla Altis for a test-drive...
