News has emerged that Perodua may establish a facility in India to sell its products locally and as a base to target other markets.
According to a report by The Hindu Business Line Indian daily, Perodua is among the latest car manufacturers to show strong interest in tapping into the Indian market.
It was reported that a senior management team from Perodua, which will be part of a large Malaysian delegation, will be at the 8th International Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS) in Chennai, India on the 15th and 16th of March to explore the possible opportunities for joint ventures and partnerships.
According to the daily, two Perodua models will also be on display at the event.
“Though these are early days, Perodua feels India is a big market. Whether the domestic market excites them or using India as a global base for exports is something that will be determined later,” said said Sooraj Dhawan of Falcon Capital Advisors, which is advising the Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii).
Besides Malaysia, Perodua vehicles are currently being sold in markets like Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Fiji, Nepal, Mauritius, and also Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Proton officials will also be part of the Malaysian delegation in India, and a couple of Proton models are also likely to be displayed at the IESS event.
