Tamiya Builds A Life-Size Mini 4WD Car

Remember these names - Magnum Saber, Proto Emperor, Liberty Emperor, Manta Ray Jr, and that black-red Hyper Dash motor? Tamiya’s mini 4WD models are among Japan’s most famous exports, after Tomica die-cast models. Every kid who grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s will remember them.

In conjunction with the Tamiya Mini 4WD Japan Cup 2015 event, Tamiya has commissioned the construction of a life-size, fully functioning model of its Aero Avante – one of its most popular mini 4WD models.

While a toy mini 4WD is powered by two AA batteries, this life-size Aero Avante is powered by a 1.6-litre air-cooled engine paired to a 4-speed manual transmission. It has a top speed of 180 km/h.

This tubular frame chassis life-size Aero Avante measures 4,650 mm long, 2,800 mm wide and 1,440 mm tall.

The single-seater car will be demonstrated at the Toyota Mega Web centre, a showroom cum automotive theme park in Odaiba, Tokyo.

Some of you may also remember there was a cartoon series that revolves around Tamiya's mini 4WD.
