Perodua's best-selling model, the Myvi is set for a refresh this year. An all-new model is expected to make a debut before 2017 ends.
The third-generation Perodua Myvi is currently under development by Perodua and Daihatsu. Codenamed D20N, the upcoming Perodua Myvi is said to be the first Perodua model to feature a Plastic Fuel Tank (PFT). A number of cars already utilize PFT, and Perodua is moving forward by fitting PFT to the new Myvi. The biggest benefit of PFT is weight savings - a plastic tank is only half the weight of a regular metal tank.
Elsewhere, sources within the company indicated that pre-production of the all-new Perodua Myvi will start in July and mass production will start in October. Seeing that mass production starts in October, it is safe to assume that a market launch of the new Myvi could happen some time in November, as reported earlier.
Looking at the company's current best-selling model, the Bezza, it is expected that Perodua will carry over some of its features to the new Myvi, including keyless entry with push start button, Vehicle Stabiliy Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), Hill-start Assist (HSA) and Eco Idle.
Powertrain wise, we can foresee that Perodua will drop its 1.3- and 1.5-litre DVVT engines, replacing the duo with Toyota's NR series Dual VVT-i units currently seen in the Bezza as well as the recently-updated Vios in 1.3- and 1.5-litre capacities respectively.
