50% Off Child Seat Subsidy Application To Start This March

Good news for parents! You can apply for a child seat subsidy starting from the 1st of March.

Announced at the 2022 Budget tabled in October last year, the government has confirmed that starting from March 2022, the 50% subsidy or up to RM150 off for the purchase of child safety seats for the B40 group will be up and running and that parents can start applying through a dedicated website.

Miros Car seat subsidy

Under the plan, parents who purchase a child safety seat worth RM300 and below will receive a subsidy of 50% of the original price, while the maximum subsidy is RM150 for those who purchase a child safety seat above RM301.

According to Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, a total of RM30 million is provided for this purpose and benefits more than 188,000 B40 families.

Child seat subsidy Malaysia

According to the Rakyat Post, parents will need to submit an application through www.mycrs.gov.my starting March 1, 2022, as the website will only be activated that day onwards.

The following are the eligibility criteria for the child seat purchase subsidy:

  • Beneficiaries from the B40 household category
  • Aged 21 years and above
  • Have a child/adopted child/foster child aged 12 years and below
  • Citizens residing in Malaysia
  • Key data reference from BPR 2021 recipients based on information received by LHDN/e-Kasih ICU
  • 1 family is eligible to claim 1 CRS

Applicants can check the results of the application starting April 1, 2022. Those who have been granted the subsidy can go to selected stores approved by the Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) to purchase the seats

COSA training Malaysia

MIROS only approves of stores with personnel trained as a Child Passenger Safety Advisor (COSA) to ensure that buyers are given guidance on the correct way to install the seat in their vehicles.

The subsidy for the B40 group to purchase child car seats has the aim of reducing road fatalities involving children. It is also against the law to not have children in car seats as announced by the government which mandated the use of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) back in January 2020. It is compulsory for all children below 135cm tall to be strapped into an approved child restraint system (CRS).
