All-New 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake Debuts, 380 PS AWD Range Topper

Jaguar has pulled the covers off the all-new 2018 XF Sportbrake, which marks the company's return to the premium estate segment.

The new Jaguar XF Sportbrake is designed and engineered to challenge the BMW 5 Series Touring, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate and Volvo V90. According to Jaguar, the new XF Sportbrake will continue to be one of the best handling estates in its segment, following the footsteps of the XF saloon.

Thanks to Jaguar's usage of aluminium in the body construction of the XF Sportbrake, weight distribution is a near perfect 50:50 front-to-rear. Compared to the model it replaces, the all-new 2018 XF Sportbrake is both stiffer and lighter. The tailgate is a newly-designed single-piece polymer unit that helped shed some weight. Handling is further supplemented by standard air suspension and optionally, Jaguar's Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD), Configurable Dynamics system and Adaptive Dynamics dampers.

Entry-level Jaguar XF Sportbrake models are equipped with 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine, available with a manual transmission or automatic transmission. Drive is sent to the rear wheels. The range-topping XF Sportbrake will get a 3.0-litre V6 that churns out 380 PS with drive sent to all four wheels.

Built at Jaguar Land Rover’s Castle Bromwich Plant, the Jaguar XF Sportbrake comes in at 4,955 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm. The new model is 6 mm shorter than its predecessor, but wheelbase is 51 mm longer. Boot space is a generous 565 litres, which can be further expanded to a massive 1,700 litres once the rear seats are folded down.

“As with the XF saloon, every line on the Sportbrake serves a clear purpose, creating a fast sweeping silhouette. This gives the car a sense of speed and a very dynamic appearance. As a result, I think it looks just as sporty as the saloon, if not more so,” said Ian Callum, director of design at Jaguar.
