Guangzhou 2018: Peugeot 508L Unveiled

Peugeot in collaboration with its Chinese partner Dongfeng have unveiled the 508L, a long-wheelbase version of the 508 sedan specifically for the Chinese market.

As the name suggests, the “L” in its name stands for “Long”, referring to the increase of the car’s wheelbase by 55 mm, bringing it to a total of 2,848 mm and a total length now reaching 4,856 mm, an additional 100 mm over the standard model. "Luxury" and "Latest Technology” are other aspects which the “L” also represents.

Another crucial difference is the adoption of new doors with framing (the global 508 model has frameless doors) to boost headroom. A more conventional boot design completes the body's changes.

The 508L will be made at Dongfeng’s Wuhan factory, and has been added to the 508’s global body programs – which also includes the 508 station wagon – meaning it could be adapted for other markets in the future.

Additionally, Peugeot 508L is based on the connected car solution developed by Huawei and is the first vehicle in the range to benefit from the OceanConnect IoT (Internet of Things) platform.

Peugeot has yet to confirm the powertrains for the 508L, but it could likely be powered by the Peugeot’s range of turbocharged 1.6-litre petrols, 1.5- and 2.0-litre turbodiesels, or a Plug-In Hybrid petrol which is slated to be introduced in Q4 of 2019.
