Malaysia Autoshow 2017 Attracts 255k Visitors; 2018 Show Confirmed For April

The recently-concluded Malaysia Autoshow 2017 attracted a crowd of 255,000 over a four-day period from 9 to 12 November, according to the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI), organizer of the show.

Held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), this year’s show witnessed launches of the Honda Civic Type R (FK8) and the Toyota Harrier, whilst the likes of the Kia Stinger, Renault Megane GT, Land Rover Discovery, and the recently-launched Perodua Myvi were all previewed for the first time in the Malaysian market at the event.

Participating brands also made available their range of cars for visitors to test drive around a 3km route in MAEPS. Additional activities included off-road 4x4 experiences by Toyota and Land Rover, as well as a demo of Honda Sensing technology with the all-new CR-V.

Datuk Madani Sahari, CEO of MAI, announced that the 2018 edition of the Malaysia Autoshow is confirmed and will once again take place at MAEPS on 12 to 15 April.

Explaining the show’s radical shift in timing from end- to mid-year, Madani said that the intention is to avoid clashing dates with established international motorshows that typically happen toward the end of the year, thereby paving the way for car makers to bring in more attractive concept vehicles to put on display. He reveals that MAI are already working together with a number of brands for this purpose.

“The success of the Malaysia Autoshow 2017 signifies the commitment of the industry and the participation of the people in the nation’s automotive sector. Next year, we aim to create a more comprehensive showcase for a larger number of visitors to the autoshow,” Madani said.

Finally, Madani also declared that MAI aims to continue growing the Malaysia Autoshow and targets to achieve a visitor-count of 3 million by 2022.
