Volkswagen has introduced a concept version of their entry-level model, the Volkswagen up! called the up! GTI. The company said that the new model will be introduced to various markets early next year.
The new Volkswagen up! GTI draws inspiration from the original Volkswagen Golf GTI. Forty one year ago, Volkswagen showed the world what the little Golf GTI could achieve with 110 PS coupled with a compact body and low curb weight. Volkswagen's new up! GTI concept pays tribute to that, boasting a similar recipe that made the original Golf GTI a success. Power is up 5 PS to 115 PS, though the turbocharged TSI engine in the up! GTI outputs more torque at 230 Nm. Volkswagen added that the near-production up! GTI completes the century sprint in 8.8 seconds before reaching a max speed of 197 km/h.
Outside, Volkswagen's GTI emblem sets the up! GTI from its regular counterpart. In front is the signature red stripe that cuts across the honeycomb radiator grille with an integrated GTI emblem. Side mirrors are finished in high-gloss black. The red stripe trend continues to the roof edge spoiler that's designed to provide improved downforce. Ride height has been lowered by 15 mm.
The GTI trail continues inside with its GTI gear knob and legendary clark seat pattern. The sport steering wheel is leather-wrapped as well.
Volkswagen said that the new up! GTI will be available in classic GTI colours, Tornado Red and Pure White. Those wanting a metallic finish can opt for Dark Silver, Black Pearl and Costa Azul (blue).
