There’s a lot to love about Volvo and if you have seven minutes to spare, here’s why. The company has been at the forefront of developing safety systems that find their way into its vehicles for many years. But what about those who aren’t inside a Volvo? With so much emphasis on safety systems designed for cars, the company has now diversified its attention to focus on those who are more exposed to the elements and more importantly, the danger of the vehicles around them: cyclists.
In collaboration with the company Albedo 100 and ad agency Grey London, the Swedish company recently launched LifePaint, a reflective safety spray that cyclists can use to make them more visible to cars at night.
Every year in the UK, over 19,000 cyclists are involved in accidents. LifePaint aims to reduce this figure by making cyclists more visible especially in low-light conditions. And this isn’t some spray that makes your bicycle, bag, jacket, helmet, etc glow brightly the moment it is applied either. In daylight, the spray is invisible but under the glare of car headlights, it glows brightly to alert drivers of your presence.
Safety in a can as one might put it.
Currently Volvo is offering LifePaint for free but only at select bicycle shops in the UK. However, the company is currently working on a business plan to enable other markets to bring it to their customers.
With the advent of the all-new Volvo XC90 that features the IntelliSafe system, LifePaint would be a perfect complement to market the pedestrian and cyclist detection system feature.
