Geely's Zeekr 001 Has A Range Of 700km And Can Do 0-100km/h In Under 4 Seconds

The Geely Zeekr 001 features 700 kilometres of range and will be in production by the end of the 2021.

It's only been a week since Geely announced their premium electric vehicle sub-brand Zeekr Smart Technology Co., and already they have unveiled the first vehicle to come out from that new division.

Meet the Zeekr 001, a new electric vehicle out of Geely's fourth sub-brand, which by the way, might look familiar if you have been following Lynk & Co's development.

To quickly get you up to speed, Lynk & Co is a Swedish-Chinese automobile brand owned by Geely Automobile Holdings. Founded in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2016, its cars are supposed to slot in between those of the Geely brands and Volvo, which Geely of course owns.

The 001 is a direct descendant of Lynk & Co's Zero Concept car that debuted last September. Apart from the slide-out door handles, bigger airbag housing at the steering wheel, ambient lighting underneath the dashboard panels and Zeekr badges, the 001 is practically the same as the Zero Concept.

The interior features an 8.8-inch digital meter cluster screen, head-up display and a 15.4-inch touch-enabled infotainment screen. Physical control buttons are scarce in the car as it features a lot of touch-sensitive buttons instead.

Technical powertrain specifications have yet to be unveiled, but if we borrow some specs from the Zero Concept car, the Zeekr 001 should be able to do 0-100 km/h in under four seconds and have a range of 700km. The 800-volt battery, which apparently will withstand a 200,000 kilometre degradation, should also be similar.

The Lynk & Co Zero Concept car also claims a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and features magnetorheological dampers and air springs, which ables the car to adjust the ride height from 150 mm to 200 mm. 

Slated to begin production in the third quarter of this year, Geely has announced that they will introduce the car fully at the 2021 Auto Shanghai show this April.

With the introduction of the 001, does this mean the beginning of the end for fully electric Lynk & Co vehicles? We will probably find out more at the upcoming Auto Shanghai show.
